KING CITY — King City’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration brought community members together once again to honor Mexican culture and tradition.

Organized by La Cocina in partnership with Sol Treasures and supported by sponsors including Benitez Security and The Echenique Foundation, the Oct. 27 event featured a vibrant downtown parade, traditional altars, live music, dances and a Catrina/Catrin Contest at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds.

“Congratulations to all of the partners who made the Dia De Los Muertos Celebration a huge success in King City,” said Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez, who acknowledged his mother’s (Tina Lopez) founding role in the annual event’s success. “The tributes to family, culture and community were breathtaking and heart wrenching, beautiful and reassuring.”
