With great sadness the family of Derald Frew announces his passing on Friday, July 6th at the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. Derald will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Hannah, his stepsons Robert, Randy and Alan Anthony as well as his 22 step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Derald was born to James and Golda Frew on December 7, 1927 in Salinas California. His parents and brothers, Gwayne and Chad, preceded him in death. Their father worked for Carl Thorp as did all three boys growing up, which precipitated Derald’s long career in farming. Derald and his two brothers operated a farming business in the Salinas and San Joaquin Valleys from the early 1950s until his retirement in 1989. He was always endeavoring to develop and apply new processes to improve and sustain his farming business. Derald was always friendly and ready to give a helping hand from digging sugar beets in the Imperial Valley as a young man to donating his expertise at San Lorenzo Park keeping up and maintaining all the old tractors that were donated by the farmers in the community.

Hunting was a big part of Derald’s life along with his love of animals, especially his two German Shepard’s “Jaws and Lucky”. Derald was the gun safety instructor in King City for many years and taught most of the young men and women in the area including his stepsons and Hannah.

Derald was a devoted husband to Hannah. They enjoyed twenty-two years of traveling and spending memorable family time in Arroyo Seco. Derald also told his friends and family many jokes that they enjoyed. He will be truly missed.

Private Family Services will be held and a Public Memorial Celebration will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Boys and Girls Club of America or to the charity of your choice in Derald’s honor.
