
SALINAS VALLEY — High school cross country’s Pacific Coast Athletic League regular season ended last week as local teams participated in the final Center Meet competitions.
King City and Greenfield ran last Wednesday at the North Monterey County course, and Gonzales and Soledad ran at the York School course in Monterey.
The King City boys placed seventh in the Gabilan Division and the King City girls placed third in the Mission Division race. Ivan Diaz led the Mustangs by placing 21st in a time of 16:24, and Rosa Pacheco placed seventh for the Lady Mustangs in a time of 20:16.
Greenfield competed in the Mission Division and placed fourth in the boys division and fifth in the girls division. Yael Hernandez led the Bruin boys by placing eighth in a time of 16:25, and Izoida Ramirez led the Greenfield girls with a seventh-place finish and a time of 19:25.
At York on Thursday, the Soledad boys placed sixth and were led by Juan Soto, who finished 17th with a time of 20:12. The Aztec girls won their division and were led by Evelyn Lopez’s second-place finish with a time of 23:16.
Gonzales won the boys Santa Lucia Division and were led by Victor Fierro’s second-place finish with a time of 18:38. The Spartans placed five runners in the top 10. For the Gonzales girls, Adriel Lambert placed sixth in the Cypress Division with a time of 24:41.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, the PCAL Cross Country Championships will take place at Toro Regional Park in Salinas. Top finishing teams and individuals will qualify for the Central Coast Section Championships on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Crystal Springs in Belmont.
