City manager earns recognition for outstanding community service

Steve Adams named King City Rotarian of the Year

KING CITY — King City Rotary has awarded City Manager Steve Adams as Rotarian of the Year, recognizing his commitment and active involvement to the club and community.

“I am very passionate about the great service Rotary provides and we have an outstanding club, which I am proud to be a part of. Therefore, I was very honored and humbled to be recognized by the club,” Adams said in a statement Friday. “I appreciate all the support and assistance I received from our wonderful members during the past year, which made this possible.”

Adams, a Rotarian for 20 years, has served as president for both the King City and Pismo Beach – Five Cities clubs.

During his term as president of King City Rotary in 2019-20, he helped start the Interact Club at King City High School and secured a grant for the students to paint a mural on the campus depicting the theme of “make a difference in the world.”

“Steve was essential in getting the Interact Club off the ground. He volunteered endless hours and took an active role in working with the students,” said Oscar Avalos, current president of King City Rotary. “It was fantastic to see the local Interact students come together and begin to make a real impact in the community as they learned the Rotary values of service above self.”

Under Adams’ leadership, the club also embarked on an international project in Uganda to help construct a home through the Youth Focus Africa Foundation. Though local Rotarians and students were unable to travel to the country due to Covid-19, the house was completed and a family has since moved in.

According to Avalos, this project as well as Adams’ many other contributions resulted in King City Rotary being named a 2019-20 Club of the Year.

“The last part of Steve’s term as president also forced adjustments to club meetings and events because of Covid-19. He helped us smoothly pivot to weekly meetings by Zoom and continues to serve on the club board of directors,” Avalos added. “It’s impossible to quantify all of Steve’s contributions. His dedication, leadership and commitment are extraordinary and he’s so deserving of this honor.”
