KING CITY — While the country is reeling from the fallout of recent protests that have turned violent, a local effort to promote peace and non-violence in the community has been planned for Friday.
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church will conduct a “Walk for Peace” in King City on Aug. 25, starting at 3:30 p.m. at the church, 504 N. Third St. The public and all victims of crimes or their family members are invited to attend.
Participants will walk on the sidewalks down Third Street, west on Ellis Street, south on Mildred Street and then west on Broadway Street to the King City Cemetery. After the walk, Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. with Bishop Richard Garcia, during which the names of deceased crime victims will be read aloud.
According to City Manager Steve Adams, “The City of King would like to express its appreciation to St. John the Baptist Church for its assistance and support in promoting peace in the community, providing public outreach and partnering to help make available immigration, citizenship and other services to many people in need of assistance.”
