KING CITY — The King City Area of the California Highway Patrol will be conducting a sobriety/driver license checkpoint somewhere within the unincorporated Monterey County on Saturday, Sept. 2.
“All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by intoxicated or unlicensed drivers,” said Lt. George Aviña, King City Area Commander.
The goal of the CHP is to ensure the safe passage of each and every motorist by targeting roads where there is a high frequency of intoxicated or unlicensed drivers. A sobriety/driver license checkpoint is a proven effective tool for reducing injuries and is designed to augment existing patrol operations.
“By publicizing our efforts we believe that we can deter motorists from drinking and driving and/or driving unlicensed,” Lt. Aviña added.
Lt. Aviña emphasized, “Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked for drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs or driving unlicensed. Our objective is to send a clear message to those individuals that consider mixing alcohol or drugs and/or drive when unlicensed. The CHP will be keeping a close eye out for you.”
Grant funding for this program was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through National Highway Safety Administration. The sobriety/driver license checkpoint will be operated from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.
