KING CITY — Last Friday, Nov. 29, at about 11:30 p.m., a California Highway Patrol (CHP) Coastal Division K-9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on a pickup for speeding, in excess of 65 mph, on Highway 101 near King City.

During the traffic stop, the canine handler “observed indicators of criminal activity,” according to CHP King City Area. The officer’s canine partner was deployed and alerted to the presence of drugs at one of the vehicle’s doors.

The canine handler subsequently conducted a search of the vehicle and found approximately 25 pounds of bulk-packaged methamphetamine — with an estimated street value of $227,000 — in the passenger compartment of the truck.

The driver was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine for transportation and sales.
