SOUTH COUNTY — King City and Gonzales high schools cross country teams stayed busy last weekend with invitational meets at Stanford (Palo Alto) and at Westmoor (Daly City).

The Mustang boys team placed second at the Stanford Invitational behind Scotts Valley in the Division IV race.

King City runners and their places and times were: Esteban Deniz (7th) 16:10; Fausto Medina (26th) 16:54; Daniel Correa (29th) 16:57; Mario Avila (32nd) 17:01; Miguel Zendejas (47th) 17:17; Peter Avila (69th) 17:44; Josh Riley (74th) 17:50.

In Daly City on Saturday at the Westmoor Cross Country Invitational, the Gonzales cross country team ran four boys in the varsity boys race and two girls in the varsity girls race. All four boy medaled in the race.

Places and times for the Spartan runners were: Miguel Mendoza (8th) 13:19; Arturo Castro (14th) 14:32); Andrew Funk (15th) 14:34; Scott Funk (17th) 14:45.

In the varsity girls race, Ashley Ochoa place third overall in the varsity girls division with a time of 16:32 and Gyzelle McFarland placed seventh in a time of 19:06.

Today at Pinto Lake Park in Watsonville, Gonzales will be competing in a Pacific Coast Athletic League Center Meet starting at 3:30 p.m. Gonzales is a member of the PCAL’s Cypress Division. King City will host the Mission Division Center Meet today at San Lorenzo Park in King City. Greenfield also competes in the Mission Division.

Tomorrow Soledad will run in the Gabilan Division Center Meet at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy.
