Flora Zamarron Villaseñor, 68, of San Lucas passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. She was born March 14, 1950 in Buenavista Guadalcazar, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

Flora was a long-time resident of San Lucas, where she raised her family with her husband of 36 years, Angel. She worked for over 30 years at local vineyards including Almaden and J&L Farms.

She was an activist for migrant worker rights and marched throughout Northern California with Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta in the 1980’s. She put her own well-being at risk during a hunger strike for the well-being of her fellow workers, raising awareness of harmful pesticides, substandard housing, and lack of healthcare. With great pride, she became a U.S. citizen in 2009 and voted in recent elections.

Flora enjoyed gardening, taking care of her pet birds and dogs, and listening to music by the band Jilgerias. Flora also enjoyed trips to local casinos, playing poker and loteria with family, and the occasional glass of wine and shot of tequila.

She took great pride in the academic, artistic, and athletic achievements of her beloved grandchildren. She loved cooking for her family, with tamales being a specialty. Most of all, she loved making flour tortillas for the grandkids.

Flora is survived by her daughters Maria Elena and Marisela (Mark Nolte), sons Francisco (Rosa), Constantino (Marlana), Felipe de Jesus, Armando (Melissa), and Jorge (Laura), 15 grandchildren, and three brothers. She is preceded by her husband Angel, sons Antonio and Jose Angel, daughters Yolanda and Carmela, and her parents Benito and Celia Zamarron.

Visitation will be held 5 PM Tuesday, August 28 at St. John’s Catholic Church in King City, with rosary to begin at 7 PM. Services will be held 10 AM the following day, Wednesday August 29, also at St. John’s. Burial to take place at San Lucas Cemetery following the service. Reception details will be shared at the service.

Arrangements were entrusted to Eddington Funeral Services, 429 Bassett St., King City, (831) 385-5400, www.EFS-Cares.com
