New-news: April 4 was the 17th birthday celebrated by Southern Monterey County Republican Women Federated. The birthday/meeting luncheon was held at Laurence’s and attending was their guest Shirley Mark, CFRW president who represents all of California at the National Federation. She said she feels these women can take credit for the election of our president and likes the changes. However, she is not happy about the lack of youth that has not joined in or even enrolled with the party and plans to work on that.
News-old: April 2 I attended the Sunday matinee “On Broadway,” its last performance, and to enjoy Jan’s dance variation from “Lion King,” “Annie,” “Cats,” “Wizard of Oz” and “Phantom of the Opera.” I found it spell binding, and not only the talent but the presentation itself left me entertained and amazed. What has been accomplished with dancers, set decorations and the stage is so beautiful. The Stanton Theater is always amazing as is our dedicated Jan Harkness.
New-news: April 6 Chamber luncheon at the Cork and Plough provided a presentation from Park Supervisor Karen Beppler-Dorn with information regarding our newest tourist stop, the Pinnacles National Park, and its effects and benefits to our community. I met U.S. Army Garrison Lisa M. Cipolla, a Cultural Resources Manager and others for their first time. This including Ryan Cronk, new editor at SoCo News coming from Atascadero. I also learned we have joining our new Officer Bernal is new Sgt. Kennedy, beginning April 17, when he joins the force. He comes from Tulare as did our Chief Robert Masterson.
New-news: Sitting at the desk at the Chamber of Commerce you will find Erin Garcia and a temp to fill in the office until a permanent manager is found. Erin is a student at Hartnell and her mom is Kathy Garcia, treasurer of the Chamber. Much has happened in the year while Brandi was manager and I wished she could stay; however, with a growing family she needs an income to grow with it.
New-news: April 27 the King City Council Chambers offers a workshop to learn about SBA financing and borrowing money. The workshop is free and the hours are 12 to 1:30 p.m. This is truly new, nothing I have seen done before at city hall.
News-old: On April 11, in City Chambers the recognition of outgoing commissioners on the Parks and Recreational Board for five years were Ken Kine and Victor Cortez. Serving nine years and donating hours of time on the Airport Advisory Board was Mark La Masus. All were presented certificates of appreciation for their commitment to serving our community.
New-news: The Mustang Legacy has written about the City Council and the Mayor Pro-Tem Carlos Victoria. The students think the council doesn’t let the students know what it does and found questions to put to Victoria. I feel the community doesn’t realize what our high school paper does, so either way there seems to be a lack of communication.
