KING CITY — As a follow-up to the recent Immigration Forum, the City of King has launched a new pilot program for residents to receive assistance regarding immigration and citizenship issues every Friday through the Catholic Charities Diocese of Monterey.
“In an effort to effectively serve the needs of everyone in the community, the King City Council recently approved a program that will offer individual assistance to local residents regarding immigration and citizenship questions through the Catholic Charities,” said City Manager Steve Adams.
Through a contract with Catholic Charities, the Immigration and Citizenship Assistance Program will run for six months and offer support on an individual or group basis — at no cost to residents — in a confidential and safe environment. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Friday at St. John the Baptist Church, 504 N. Third St., in King City.
According to Adams, the new program will help dispel a lot of misinformation in the community involving this topic. Information is available regarding citizen rights, obtaining citizenship, developing a family plan and any other questions about immigration and citizenship.
Catholic Charities is recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals, which is the highest administrative body responsible for accrediting organizations that practice before the immigration courts.
