Greenfield yard sale, cleanup day scheduled

GREENFIELD — Greenfield residents will have opportunities this month to sell unwanted items, shop for bargains and dispose of household goods through two community events planned for August.

The city’s Community Yard Sale is scheduled for Aug. 21-23, with discounted permits available for $5. Residents who want to participate must purchase the discounted permit at City Hall during the week of Aug. 17-21. The special permit will not count toward the city’s annual limit of two yard sales. Participating sales will also be included on a community map to help shoppers find locations throughout the city.

The yard sale will take place one week before Greenfield’s free Reuse, Recycle & Cleanup Day on Aug. 29. The cleanup event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, or until collection boxes are full, at the Greenfield Corp. Yard, 920 Walnut Ave. The event is for city of Greenfield residents only.

Accepted items include general garbage, electronics, televisions and computers, metal appliances, and metal and steel items, including refrigerators and freezers. Furniture and yard waste will not be accepted. Special collection items include batteries, used oil filters and certain other materials. Residents can receive up to two free oil filters when they bring used oil filters for recycling.

The cleanup event also will feature a free compost giveaway. Residents are encouraged to watch their mail for a flyer and instructions about the giveaway. The events are being coordinated with Tri-Cities Disposal & Recycling and are intended to encourage reuse, recycling and community participation.

City Park restrooms temporarily closed

KING CITY — Restrooms at City Park in King City are temporarily closed due to clogged toilets, according to the City of King.

The city said the clogs were caused by items that should not be flushed, including socks and excessive toilet paper.

“Our Public Works team works hard to keep our parks and restrooms clean, safe, and maintained for everyone to enjoy,” the city said in a public notice Aug. 14. “Unfortunately, situations like this can occur when restrooms are not used properly.”

Public Works crews are working to address the issue and reopen the restrooms. The city asked residents to “use the facilities responsibly” to help keep public restrooms clean and in good condition.

The city thanked the community for its cooperation and understanding while the issue is addressed.
