SAN ARDO — Caltrans will begin vegetation control work Monday along an 8-mile stretch of Highway 101 in southern Monterey County, with intermittent lane and shoulder closures expected over the next two weeks.
Crews will remove vegetation and brush from the shoulders of northbound and southbound 101 from south of San Ardo to Jolon Road.
Work will take place Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Travelers can expect intermittent shoulder and single-lane closures, though Caltrans said no delays are expected.
Crews are removing an average of 8,000 to 10,000 pounds of dense brush each day as part of the project, which supports California’s Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan to manage vegetation and reduce wildfire risk along the state highway system.
The $330,000 fuel-reduction project is being conducted by Burn Bot Inc. of South San Francisco. The portion of the work along this segment of Highway 101 is expected to be completed by Aug. 21.
