MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two separate incidents involving the discovery of human remains Friday in north Monterey County and Salinas.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the first incident was reported just after 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 1, when fire and emergency medical personnel, along with sheriff’s deputies, were dispatched to the 100 block of Struve Road after receiving a report of an infant found in the area. Fire personnel confirmed the infant was deceased.

Less than two hours later, at about 9:55 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to the 400 block of Old Stage Road in Salinas after a county employee discovered what appeared to be human remains.

The Sheriff’s Office said both investigations remain ongoing.

“Both of these incidents are being actively investigated, and no further information is available at this time,” the agency stated in a news release.
