KING CITY — Alex Salazar of King City Boxing Club and Miguel Hernandez of San Ardo Boxing Club represented South Monterey County last Saturday at the Summer Showdown II Youth Boxing Tournament in Oakland.
The event was hosted by the East Oakland Boxing Association and the competition was governed by USA Boxing and its officials.
Salazar, 14, placed second in the 119-pound weight class, and 16-year-old Hernandez placed first in the 110-pound weight class.
“Both of my boxers did an outstanding job and followed instructions,” said King City and San Ardo Boxing Clubs head coach Rodolfo Tapia. “Miguel came out with a unanimous decision in the win, and Alex had a very close fight but lost by split decision. I am very proud of them — good performance.”
The local boxing clubs have a busy August as they will fight in Salinas this Saturday; in Santa Maria on Aug. 16; and then travel to Oxnard for the PAL (Police Athletic League) International Boxing Tournament on Aug. 23-29.
