
KING CITY — More than 25 teams will be participating this Saturday at the 81st King City Invitational at War Memorial Stadium.
The track and field meet will continue the North vs. South region schools award. Currently the North and South are tied with wins, with King City scoring the most points last year.
Field events will start at 9:30 a.m. and track events start at 10 a.m. The top 36 entries will be accepted in the 100/200 and 27 in all other events. Frosh/Soph accepts top 27 entries in 100/200/800/1600/3200 and top 18 in all other events.
From the South, Arroyo Grande, Lompoc and San Luis Obispo are confirmed participants, while the North has many Pacific Coast Athletic League teams attending.
The King City boys will be led by multi sprinter John Ruelas in the 200, 400 and both relays, and Carson Tidwell in the 100, 200, 4 x 100 relay and long jump. Armando Villasenor will lead the Mustangs in the shot put and discus, and Jolea Celaya will lead the varsity girls with great times in the 100 and 300 hurdles.
“We are excited to be hosting our invitational this weekend,” said Mustang head coach Ismael Rocha. “There will be some good teams attending and we will have some of the best starters in the State starting our races, along with great officials in the field events.”
