KING CITY — Hands That Help SoMoCo hosted its fifth fundraising event last month, this time honoring King City resident Susan King as she battles cancer.
Organizers described King as facing her diagnosis “with courage and grace” and said “she is definitely a fighter.” They added that she “shows strength with her positive outlook and determination, and with her family, friends and community behind her, she knows she is not alone in this journey.”
The benefit dinner took place Jan. 28 at King City Grill, drawing support from across South Monterey County.
“What an incredible evening! We want to give a massive thank you to our amazing southern Monterey County community for showing up and supporting our latest recipient, Susan King, at our benefit dinner,” Hands That Help SoMoCo said in a statement. “Your generosity and presence made the night a huge success, proving once again that we are truly stronger together.”
Organizers offered special recognition to King’s sponsor, Stephanie Domingos and the Domingos family, along with auction and raffle donors who contributed items for the online auction and popular raffle.

“A huge thank you to the local businesses and individuals who contributed items. From the online auction to our popular raffle, your donations are what drive the support for our recipients,” the group said.
The organization also thanked Ron and the team at King City Grill for hosting and providing the meal, as well as King City High School HOSA students for their service during the event.
“We are so proud of these young leaders for their hard work and dedication to serving others,” organizers said.
Volunteers were also recognized for assisting with setup and service: “To everyone who helped with setup and service — you are the heart of this organization! We are truly grateful!”
Hands That Help SoMoCo is a 100% volunteer-driven organization serving communities from Gonzales to Bradley. The group coordinates fundraising dinners and related efforts to support local residents experiencing irreplaceable loss or serious hardship.
Organizers encouraged community members to watch for updates on their next benefit dinner, which will support Alicia Marie Reyes of King City.
