
KING CITY — On Saturday at San Lorenzo Park in King City, the King City Mustang boys’ cross country team captured team titles in the varsity boys, JV boys and frosh-soph boys divisions.
The Lady Mustang varsity team placed second behind Everett Alvarez. The Eagles won the varsity and JV divisions.
“Our invitational was a wonderful success, and none of it would have been possible without the incredible support of our parents, coaches and alumni,” said King City head coach Miguel Zamudio. “Today, Everett Alvarez, Gonzales, Seaside and Watsonville brought great competition.”
Team scores were the following: Varsity boys — 1. King City (26), 2. Greenfield, 3. Seaside; Varsity girls — 1. Everett Alvarez (30), 2. King City (41), 3. Greenfield (54); JV boys — 1. KC (15); JV girls — 1. Everett Alvarez (16), 2. Greenfield (41); Frosh-soph boys — 1. King City (19), 2. Gonzales (39); Frosh-soph girls — incomplete teams.
Angel Ramirez of Seaside won the varsity boys division in a time of 17:05, and Izoida Ramirez of Greenfield won the varsity girls division in 21:33.

“It was long overdue since King City had an invitational at San Lorenzo Park,” Zumudio said. “The original course has remained the same since its origins in the ’90s. We closed the invitational by honoring Coach Paul Cavanaugh and Coach David Daines. Two great coaches that helped pave the way for King City cross country.”
The tentative date for the next King City Cross Country Invitational is Sept. 12, 2026.
