George Worthy

Hello everyone. You may have noticed lately that my column has been a little shy in the volume department. I can only blame that on the fact that many things have changed around the old, “Worthy to Print” homestead. In case you were smiling because I have missed my deadline a few days in a row and you thought you were through being inundated with my musings, well no such luck. There will just be a few adjustments in the future.

I would like to thank our wonderful Editor, along with those who came before him, for putting up with me for the past 25 years. I have been blessed by the Editor in Chief of this informational encouragement with very few corrections. I have written my musings on a boat drifting down the Danube in Europe, sitting on a beach in Hawaii, laying by the pool in Cabo, and in my office at home.

Today, it’s still a true blessing to type my thoughts with the encouragement and love of my bride. If you enjoy my scribbling, you might want to know it is her smiles and a warm touch on my shoulder that keep me going as I watch the words appear on the PC on a blinking screen. My bride is my greatest friend, coach and mother of my children. I try to tell you how much she means to me and to our little family group in some way. She is truly the glue that keeps our family together. I am truly blessed to have her in my life and triple blessed with my boys and the daughter that made me a grandfather.

However, it appears that the words do not always present themselves in the manner I need. I have been writing and praying one article per week for a long time. For these past years, I feel you must know just about everything about my past and what is currently going on. In the future, I will be writing twice a month, the first and third.

I will be writing about how proud I am of my sons as they remind me what life can be and I will be writing how my daughter who held my hand when things got crazy as her mother and I decided to move on to new adventures. Tara has married and has given me my grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Her and my son-in-law, Eric, have recently moved to Las Vegas, which is further away than we all would like. But I have always said you need to let them fly, so I see a trip to Vegas in the future.

My last piece of news is one that brings all of us great happiness. My youngest son, Reed, asked for the hand of his fiancée from her father and was accepted into her family. Her father is a wise man indeed as he was very happy to know that she will be taken care of. Reed bought the ring in December and showed it to us with pride and love. Last weekend we all celebrated as Reed got down on one knee and proposed to Taylor at Carmel Valley Ranch. Lorraine and Marcia (Taylor’s mom) stood at the top and watched as it all happened. Taylor and Reed are made for each other, and as we all celebrated with family and friends, I was reminded of how time keeps moving forward.

It’s hard to believe that the little boy who loved playing baseball, football, racing dirt bikes, wrestling and always wanting to know how to fix things will be a husband very soon. This kid always makes everyone smile and has made a life for himself. He has good friends, and I hope his mom and I have taught him what is important. He is a good man and is there when someone needs him. You know I have spoken in the past about loyalty, and he has it in spades.

So now we wait for the date, and Lorraine is looking forward to working with Taylor and her mom to make plans. Taylor is a special young lady who happens to share my bride’s birthday. Lorraine and I are so happy that Taylor will and is already a member of our family. We are anxious to celebrate the big day and look forward to them growing their family.

Speaking of a future announcement, perhaps we will hear of Austin’s announcement, but I’m not going to hold my breath. For now, his focus is on career. He is a fine young man working to establish his own place in the world. I always look forward to hearing his stories and his keen ability to make us laugh. He is starting a new adventure, which will be for a future column. As for now, I am a pretty happy dude.

That’s it for this week. I pray that you will read my scribbling and enjoy them. As much as I have enjoyed writing, it has meant so much to me when I am approached on the street or sent an email that something touched your heart in a meaningful way. I am a former soldier so my thoughts will probably wander. I hope they will make you smile.

God Bless.
