KING CITY — Hundreds of third graders from South Monterey County schools attended the 2025 South County Farm Day last month to learn all about agriculture.

The annual enrichment program, sponsored by Monterey County Agricultural Education, gives an opportunity for youth to become familiar with food production and farming.

The Jan. 23 event was held at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City, where dozens of local ag businesses came together to showcase their industry and help increase students’ agricultural literacy and awareness by teaching them such aspects as food safety and processing.

Through hands-on exhibits, students learned about farming, healthy eating, recycling, agricultural technology and more, in addition to experiencing farm animals first-hand.
