SALINAS VALLEY — Monterey County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has identified a suspect wanted in connection to the shooting and attempted homicide of two people in Greenfield on Sunday.

At about 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 9, MCSO deputies and Greenfield Police officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim at a homeless encampment in the agricultural fields just south of Elm Avenue and Fourth Street. The victim was located and found to be suffering from non-life-threatening wounds.

About 15 minutes later, a second report was received from a caller reporting that a subject had brandished a firearm at them in the area of Elm and Fourth. The caller also reported a second victim of a gunshot wound.

Law enforcement found the second person suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in the agricultural fields south of Elm Avenue and Third Street.

Both victims were transported to a trauma center for treatment of their injuries.

According to MCSO, an extensive search of the area was conducted with assistance from multiple outside agencies, but the suspect was not located.

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Ramon Valdes Carrasco, is considered to be “armed and dangerous,” stated MCSO. He is about 5-foot-6, 150 pounds with black hair, green eyes and facial hair, and was last seen wearing dark clothing.

MCSO added that Carrasco is believed to be unhoused and frequents the Greenfield area.
