KING CITY — King City High football team had some offensive woes in last Friday’s 27-0 Mission Division loss to the host North Salinas Vikings at Rabobank Stadium.
North Salinas (6-2 overall, 4-0 in the Mission) took a 10-0 lead with a field goal and touchdown in the first quarter, and then ended the first half with 17 points in the second quarter to take a 27-0 lead.
“We had opportunities in the red zone and we just couldn’t come away with points,” said King City head coach Mac Villanueva. “We had a touchdown call back on a holding penalty and we had a hard time responding after that. North Salinas did a great job tightening up on defense when we were in the red zone. It was a real struggle tonight for us on offense. Defensively, we gave up some big play in the first half, but in the second half we kept them out of the end zone.”
Carson Tidwell led the Mustangs in rushing with 70 yards, and Kody Lambert led the team with three receptions for 82 yards.
On defense for King City, Rocky Villanueva led the Mustangs with nine tackles and two for a loss. Jayden Gonzalez had an interception and Emmanual Orozco recovered a fumble.
King City travels to Salinas on Friday to battle the host Rancho San Juan and will complete the regular season on Nov. 8 against Soledad.
