KING CITY — Gabilan Division games were a struggle for the King City Lady Mustangs as they lost a pair of home games to the Carmel Padres and the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs.
The Padres defeated King City, 3-0, and Monte Vista Christian downed the host team by a 3-2 score.
“Last week was a little setback,” said King City head coach Christine Luna. “Playing Carmel on Monday was a tough match and we lost 3-0.”
Amity Hearne and Hayden Munoz combined for eight kills, six digs and two aces. Hollyn Hearne added six kills and Jordan Davis added three blocks. Xienna Novoa had 13 digs and two aces, while Stephanie Velasquez and Janesa Lopez combined for 18 assists.
On Wednesday against visiting Monte Vista Christian, Holly Hearne led King City with 17 kills and added nine digs, two aces and two blocks in the loss to the Mustangs.
“It was a thrilling five-set match again, much like the first time we played them,” said Coach Luna. “It was anyone’s match that night and it came down to whoever made the least mistakes and who could earn their own points. We just fell short in the fifth set. We are looking to turn things around for our last six matches. We are now hitting the road for two weeks with four away matches. It’s going to be a tough two weeks, but the Lady Mustangs are up for it.”
Statistically, Iran Ibarra had nine kills, 18 digs and two aces and Hayden Munoz added eight kills. Jocely Romero finished with 13 digs and two aces, and Stephanie Velasquez and Janesa Lopez combined for 46 assists and 16 digs.
King City played at Hollister on Tuesday and will play Thursday in Pebble Beach against Robert Louis Stevenson.
The Lady Broncos are continuing to play tough even through a little adversity as they beat Carmel, 2-0, and Monte Vista Christian, 2-1.
