KING CITY — King City High’s varsity boys track and field team outscored Morro Bay and Hollister to claim the 78th King City Invitational Track Meet on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.

Hollister High School brought its large team and won the varsity girls and the boys and girls frosh-soph divisions at the April 1 meet in King City.

King City’s Israel Limosnero was a double event winner with victories in the 800 meters and the 1600, and ran a leg of the winning 4 x 400 relay team with Branden Villasenor, Isaiah Hernandez and Nicholas Green.

Also claiming wins for the Mustang varsity boys were Green in the 110 hurdles and Martin De La Cruz in the shot put.

For the Lady Mustangs, Rose Ruelas claimed wins in the 100 and 200 meters and ran on the winning 4 x 100 relay team and the second place 4 x 400 relay team. Alyssa Blacks took second in the shot put and ran on the 4 x 100 relay team. Lesley Arreola took first place in the varsity girls pole vault.

As is tradition, the King City track and field program presented High Point awards to the visiting and home Mustang individuals.

Individual winners were: Ian Lambright, varsity boys (Morro Bay); Eva Gaona, varsity girls (Watsonville); John Myers, frosh-soph boys (Morro Bay); and Christa Cunningham, frosh-soph girls (Hollister).

Mustang High Point winners were: Israel Limosnero, varsity boys; Rose Ruelas, varsity girls; Andrew Quiahua, frosh-soph boys; and Natalie Rodriguez, frosh-soph girls.

Local track and field teams will continue Pacific Coast Athletic League meets this week, with King City hosting Palma/Notre Dame and Santa Catalina on Thursday, while on Tuesday, Greenfield was at Pacific Grove and Gonzales was at Seaside.
