KING CITY — A modified detour plan has been prepared for the closure of the northbound Highway 101 onramp and offramp at Jolon Road, which will be closed beginning Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Travelers on northbound 101, who pass through King City, will be directed to continue north on the highway and to take the Arroyo Seco Road/Greenfield exit and return on southbound 101 to take the southbound Jolon Road exit. The Greenfield exit is about 12 miles north of King City.
Alternatively, travelers on northbound 101 who intend to reach Jolon Road, as well as the Pine Canyon community, will be alerted by electronic message signs near San Lucas to exit northbound 101 at the San Lucas exit.
Travelers will be directed by message and directional signs to go left on Lockwood San Lucas Road, turn right on Oasis San Lucas Road, before turning right on Jolon Road. San Lucas is about 10 miles south of King City.
This ramp closure is scheduled to remain in place until Nov. 18.
“Temporary concrete railing will be placed along the roadway at the northbound Jolon Rd. onramp and offramp and work will be performed behind the protective railing,” according to Caltrans in a news release Monday.
Message and directional signs will be in place to direct travelers, who can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
Also on Tuesday, Oct. 11, crews will reopen the southbound Highway 101 onramp at Jolon Road.
The $78 million construction project is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2023.
i’m warning people about this construction project . the other night i was on 101 north and suddenly was channeled into a detour that was super narrow and freaky with the cement walls on both sides leaving no room to breathe or even think . i was shocked with the predicament , the person in the car with me was also in a panic . we were in a uhaul truck and it was very scary we were afraid we were going to hit the sides of the detour they were so narrow . this construction project needs to consider widening the detour in my opinion . also there needs to be more warnings about the narrow passageway if it is to remain as such , in my opinion . it feels dangerous to me .
