KING CITY — King City Mustangs pulled off an upset victory against the undefeated Greenfield Bruins to clinch second place at last week’s Mission Division wrestling finals.
The dual meet was highly contested and came down to the final match of the night between heavyweights Rocky Villanueva of King City and Travis Ryan of Greenfield.
Villanueva sealed the match with a third period takedown resulting in a 42-36 victory for the Mustangs.
Other notable performances for King City included Deandre Esparza, who picked up a victory wrestling up a weight class (190) in overtime. Michael Smith (113), Yibran Torres (126), Aaron Macias (144), Ivan Paramo (157) and Julian Rodriguez all pinned their opponents.
