KING CITY — King City High volleyball is 2-0 in the Gabilan Division after a 3-2 win in Watsonville against Monte Vista Christian on Sept. 17 and a 3-0 home win over the visiting Hollister Haybalers.

The Lady Mustangs are now 8-3 overall and will play at home with Robert Louis Stevenson on Wednesday and host the Pacific Grove Breakers on Friday.

“We had a thrilling five-set, three-hour match with Monte Vista Christian,” said King City head coach Christine Luna. “It really took the whole team to overcome being down 2-1 and come out with the victory on the road.”

Amity Hearne and Hollyn Hearne combined for 25 kills, 29 digs and four aces. Iran Ibarra and Avery Munoz combined for 13 kills and 20 digs, and Jocelyn Romero and Xienna Novoa combined for 36 digs. Janesa Lopez and Stephanie Velasquez combined for 45 assists.

“Hollister was another win that took the whole team coming together and working as a unit,” said Coach Domingos. “It was a good first week and we are looking forward to another great week of matches.”

Munoz, Ibarra and Hollyn Hearne combined for 24 kills and 24 digs. Amity Hearne and Jordan Davis combined for nine kills and four aces and Lopez and Velasquez added 18 digs and 29 assists.

The Lady Broncos started off divisional play with wins over Monte Vista and Hollister and placed third with a 4-1 record at the Everett Alvarez Tournament.
