SAN LUCAS — Spectrum recently launched its internet, mobile, TV and voice services to nearly 100 homes and small businesses in the community of San Lucas in South Monterey County. Earlier this year, the company also introduced services to more than 170 homes and businesses in San Ardo and parts of North Monterey County.

The buildout of Spectrum’s newly constructed fiber-optic network in these areas was partly funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) broadband grant awarded by the County of Monterey.

To celebrate the expansion, Spectrum and the County of Monterey hosted a community event at the San Ardo Branch Library on Sept. 23. This celebration included an informational session on signing up for services and a tablet raffle giveaway, and was attended by Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez and Chief Information Officer Eric Chatham.

“The Board of Supervisors is making meaningful investments of ARPA dollars to expand true broadband access in often-forgotten stretches of Monterey County,” Lopez said. “Too many communities remain on the wrong side of the digital divide. We are proud to partner with Charter Communications to deliver real results for rural communities.”

“Expanding broadband access has never been more important,” Chatham added. “Reliable internet is essential for education, healthcare and economic development. Our partnership enables us to bring high-speed connectivity to those who need it most.”

Spectrum Internet offers speeds up to 1 Gbps, with residential starting speeds of 500 Mbps and no modem fees, data caps or contracts. Spectrum Business Internet provides similar high-speed options, along with new advancements aimed at delivering gigabit upload and download speeds across its service area.

“Spectrum is committed to bringing gigabit broadband to unserved communities in Monterey County,” said Keri Askew-Bailey, Group Vice President of Government Affairs at Spectrum. “Our investment is making high-value broadband, mobile, TV and voice services available in previously unserved areas like San Lucas.”

According to the FCC’s January 2023 report, Spectrum Internet exceeded advertised speeds for all tiers measured, even during peak usage times.
