KING CITY — Santa Lucia Elementary School Principal Brinet Greenlee and fellow staff members recently kissed a pig on stage during an assembly with the student body as part of a fundraiser for the school’s library.
The Feb. 16 event came about when Greenlee agreed to kiss a pig after students sold more than $2,800 worth of books at the book fair. She was the first to pucker up for the porker, aptly named “GOAT” (Greatest Of All Time), who belongs to Wiley Hearne and the Hearne Family.
Teacher Mr. Menendez followed after receiving the most votes from students in a second fundraiser, in which the youngsters paid 50 cents each to vote for one of their teachers to press their lips against the pig as well. An additional $400 was raised for the school’s library.
“Amazingly enough, about half a dozen of them really wanted to kiss a pig,” said Librarian Denise Donham. “We raised a little over $400 for the school library with that final part of the fundraising.”
Fellow teachers Mrs. Domingos, Mr. Roberts, Mrs. Wathen, Mr. Van Horn and Mrs. Ramirez also puckered up for the pig at the assembly.
