FALL LECTURE

BRADLEY — San Antonio Valley Historical Association is hosting its annual Meeting and Fall Lecture featuring “Fall at Hesperia Hall,” on Saturday, Nov. 16. The public event will take place at Hesperia Hall, which is located on Bryson-Hesperia Road in Bradley. A meet-and-greet begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by a lunch at noon. During the program, three local historians will share insights and stories about the hall’s history. CEMETERY TOUR

KING CITY — A walking tour celebrating the lives of veterans is planned for Monday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. at the King City Cemetery. Local historians John and Karen Jernigan will lead the walk and tell stories about the lives of people buried there. The stories include those who served in the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Spanish American War, Korean War and Vietnam War. It will also feature stories about the 1940 King City High School graduate who died on the U.S.S. Arizona at the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the founding of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars organization and the role that King City’s Mesa Del Rey Airport played in the training of World War II pilots. The tour is expected to last about an hour. Reservations are requested but not required. Participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes, as the ground can often be uneven. VETERANS PARADE

SALINAS — The 14th Annual Monterey County Veterans Day Parade will take place Monday, Nov. 11, in Oldtown Salinas. This year’s Grand Marshal is Vietnam veteran and former Marine John Macias. Opening ceremonies will start at 1 p.m. at the Salinas High School parking lot, and the parade will kick off at 2 p.m. with a Calstar Helicopter leading the way. Salinas Mayor Kimbley Craig will address local veterans at the opening ceremony, and there will be a mock oath of enlistment for about 100 future service members from all branches.


BONUS BRIEF: MONTHLY LUNCHEON

KING CITY — Southern Monterey County Republican Women Federated will host its monthly meeting Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 11:30 a.m. at Cork and Plough restaurant, 200 Broadway St. in King City. The guest speaker will be Dean Flippo, retired Monterey County District Attorney, who will discuss the results of the Nov. 5 Presidential Election. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting.
