STUFF THE BUS
KING CITY — United Way Monterey County will launch the 11th annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive on Saturday, June 5, at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of King City and hosted by UWMC, this kickoff event will occur from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., beginning with opening remarks from guest speakers. Each year the Stuff the Bus program provides backpacks filled with new school supplies to students living in homeless or near homeless conditions in Monterey County. Monetary donations are being accepted through the website unitedwaymcca.org/stuff-bus.

MONTEREY — Local performers and those who wish to showcase their talents for free are being sought to appear on the Community Stage at the 85th Annual Monterey County Fair, which is set for Sept. 3-6 at the Monterey County Fair and Event Center, 2004 Fairground Road in Monterey. Interested individuals and organizations are invited to apply online no later than June 25 at montereycountyfair.com. The schedule of performances is determined on a first-come, first-served basis. TRANSPORTATION TRANSITION
MONTEREY COUNTY — Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) staff provided an update on the agency’s current Covid-19 pandemic protocol and sought input from the board on the transition process from these restrictions, as the county progresses into the lower tiers of Covid-19 classification. Since March 2020, TAMC has held entirely virtual meetings, with 90% of the staff working from home full time and only allowing no more than four people in the office at one time. After the May 26 presentation and input from the board, staff proposed to continue to meet remotely for June meetings and to start the transition to in-person meetings, as appropriate, in August. Board members also agreed to participate in a voluntary survey regarding this issue.
