SALINAS — Alliance on Aging (AOA) provides services and resources that address the challenges and opportunities for older adults in Monterey County, one of which is needing a cell phone for everyday activities. AOA is inviting seniors to come and get a free cell phone from Standup Wireless Phones on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The HUB, 236 Monterey St., in Salinas. The following items must be brought to receive a free cell phone: ID (Driver’s license or passport with proof of address); Medi-Cal Card, EBT (Food Stamp Card); Section 8 Letter; SSI Award Letter (2025); Veteran’s Letter; and W-2 (2024) if worked last year. SOLEDAD — Join the UFW Foundation to learn about constitutional rights and tips for emergency planning during a “Know Your Rights” immigration event on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 5 p.m. Hartnell College will host the event at its Soledad Education Center, Community Room #109, 1505 Metz Road, in Soledad. Additional events are planned for April 3 at Hartnell’s Main Campus in Salinas and April 24 at the Soledad campus again.

KING CITY — Applications for Fourth of July fireworks booths in King City are now available online at the City of King’s website kingcity.com under “Documents and Forms.” The deadline for submitting applications to City Hall is March 6 at 5 p.m. Three permits will be available for nonprofit organizations to utilize for community fundraising. If the City receives more than three applications, permits will be awarded through a lottery selection process. There is an application fee of $39 and permit fee of $395. Fireworks may be sold from noon June 28 through July 4. The lottery to select the applicant will take place on March 25. Contact City Hall at 831-386-5925 for more information.

MONTEREY COUNTY — The County of Monterey Procurement Office will host a public sale of surplus office equipment and furniture on Friday, Feb. 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sale will take place at 1488 Schilling Place in Salinas. Available items include office furniture, chairs (desk and guest), file cabinets (lateral and vertical) and bookcases. All items will be sold “as is, where is,” and the sale is final. Payment must be made in exact cash, as personal checks will not be accepted. Items must be removed by 1:30 p.m. on the same day. Note that no loading equipment or assistance will be provided, so buyers should come prepared to transport their purchases.
