SALINAS VALLEY — King City and Greenfield rotary clubs recently provided new digital scales to assist in obtaining patients’ vital stats at Mee Memorial Healthcare System’s local clinics.
The idea came about after Greenfield Rotary President Avelina Torres had coffee with TJ Plew of the King City Rotary, during which they learned about the clinics’ desires to upgrade scales.
The clubs applied for grants to obtain new scales at both the Greenfield and King City clinics.
“As a nonprofit, we are here to help the community,” Torres said.
The Welch Allyn Scale-Tronix stand-on scale is completely digital and measures weight in pounds and kilograms, as well as provides a BMI readout.
“It happened to be on our wish list,” said MMHS Director of Clinics Heidi Pattison, “and Rotary made our wish come true.”
With a sleek design, the battery-powered scale is portable and sits on wheels, which means there is less manual labor involved in moving the equipment. It also never needs calibration and has a low-profile platform for patients who need easy access.
“We have two vitals stations at the Albert and Donna Oliveira Clinic,” said Cynthia Chaves, MMHS clinic coordinator. “We had done the research and were already working with purchasing, so we knew exactly what we needed — they were a big help.”
Torres, along with Greenfield Rotary Vice President/Treasurer Bob White and Secretary Valerie Herrera, dedicated the new digital scale last week at the Albert and Donna Oliveira Clinic in Greenfield.
In King City, Rotarians and MMHS Board Members Roger Borzini and James Ewart installed the new scale dedicated by the King City Rotary at the King City Clinic.
