MONTEREY COUNTY — Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) is collaborating with California 2-1-1 providers across its coverage area, including United Way Monterey County, to offer customers critical services during times of disaster.
As part of its 2024 charitable contributions, PG&E’s Central Coast team awarded a $10,000 grant to United Way Monterey County to help support, prepare and keep customers safe.
2-1-1 is a free and confidential service that helps people find local resources, like lodging, ADA-accessible transportation, utility assistance and more. Customers can reach out to get help preparing for a potential power outage, or any other kind of emergency.
“As we work to improve our energy system’s resilience to extreme climate conditions, we’re also looking at all the possible ways we can support our customers during outages,” said Teresa Alvarado, vice president for PG&E’s South Bay and Central Coast region. “2-1-1 has proven to be a critical resource and partner by keeping families informed and connected to resources.”
Last year, 2-1-1 Monterey County responded to more than 13,700 calls and texts from residents looking to be connected to housing services, utility assistance, food, transportation, healthcare and human services.
This resource is available 24/7 in more than 150 languages. While 2-1-1 provides proactive outreach to all PG&E customers, it also serves as the first point of contact for those with Access and Functional Needs (AFN) before, during and after a Public Safety Power Shut Off (PSPS).
