On Tuesday, January 8, 2019, Myrna Marie Fisher passed away peacefully surrounded by her son and daughter. She was 89 years old.
Myrna was born on March 4, 1929 in North English, Iowa, to Lloyd and Marie Ayres. Myrna attended the North English public schools and was valedictorian of her high school class. She went on to college and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1950 with distinction, where she met her husband, Allan Leo Fisher, in a chemistry class.
Myrna married Allan that June and they lived in Iowa City while her husband finished his doctorate degree. Myrna raised four children, Susan (David) Gill, Marci Fisher (Fred Flint), Robert (Trish) Fisher and Stuart Fisher. She leaves five grandchildren, Curtis Gill, Brandon Gill, Danielle Flint, Dylan Flint and Luke Fisher. Myrna had two great grandchildren, Rochelle and Colin Gill. She was preceded in death by her son, Stuart Fisher and her daughter, Marci Fisher and her husband, Dr. Allan Fisher.
During Myrna’s long life, she was a wife, mother, schoolteacher, grandmother and great grandmother and friend. She was passionate about her family and loved being with her grandchildren. Myrna loved nature and travel and visited many continents, countries and cities. She loved all children and volunteered with the Red Cross teaching swim lessons at the Greenfield Pool. She taught kindergarten at the Greenfield School and also delivered meals to seniors in Salinas with Meals on Wheels.
Myrna was an excellent cook and loved volunteering at the Steinbeck House Restaurant kitchen. Her family enjoyed sampling any of the wonderful foods prepared by Myrna. Her grandkids loved her Steinbeck Stew and homemade crescent rolls. Myrna received great inspiration from being a member of the Greenfield Community United Methodist Church and dedicated many hours volunteering with the Church to help people in the community. Myrna also had a great love for animals. She had a heart for rescue dogs, usually a Miniature Poodle.
A special thank you to Karyn Kitchin, Denise Ornelas, and the staff at Brookdale Senior Living in Paso Robles for taking such good care of our mom for the past five years.
The family hopes you will join them at a Celebration of Life Lunch on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, Orradre Building, 625 Division Street in King City at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Myrna’s name to Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County (www.slofoodbank.org) or The SPCA for Monterey County at 1002 Monterey Salinas Highway, Salinas, CA 93908.
