SALINAS VALLEY — There were just a couple of South Monterey County Little League baseball teams still alive in the California Region 9 All-Star Tournament at the end of the second week of competition.
In the 12-and-under division, Soledad was still playing as of Friday as they began the week with a 13-12 loss to Continental at Manzanita Park on June 23, then fought back with a 7-0 win against Manzanita on June 27.
Soledad was scheduled to play Ferrasci on June 29.
King City began the week with a 4-2 victory in Gonzales over Greenfield but was eliminated on June 27 after a 7-4 setback against Atlantic in Soledad. Greenfield was eliminated after the loss to King City.
In the 11-and-under division, Gonzales was eliminated on June 26 by a 10-0 score to Hollister in a game that was played at Hartnell Little League Park. Hollister began the tournament with a win over National and then was sent to the loser’s bracket as they were beaten 3-2 by Hartnell.
In the 10-and-under division, Soledad began the week on June 27 with a 2-1 loss against Hartnell at National Park. Gonzales lost 2-1 to Hollister at Hartnell. Ferrasci ended the season for Greenfield with a 10-4 victory at American Park, and Continental defeated King City 11-1 on their home field.
Gonzales had a scheduled game with Ferrasci on Saturday at Soledad, and the Soledad team had a home game on June 29 against Continental. Either Gonzales or Soledad can advance to play the winner of Hartnell or Hollister to stay in the tournament.
