KING CITY — King City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture has announced that the dates for the annual observance of 2020 Beautification Week will be June 20-28.
The event is a volunteer effort promoted by the Chamber to improve the appearance of the town.
Because of county shelter-in-place orders due to the coronavirus, this will be a scaled-back version with all the usual annual activities to promote the event postponed, such as the kick-off barbecue and extra trash collections.
Even so, residents and businesses are still being encouraged to preserve the beauty of the town by doing one thing to improve the appearance of their property while maintaining social distancing and Covid-19 safety practices. This could include everything from washing windows to painting fences, pulling weeds and removing gum from sidewalks.
Beautification Week is done in partnership with the City of King, King City in Bloom, Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority and Waste Management. To avoid extra non-essential trips to the landfill transfer station, Waste Management encourages residents to use existing weekly collection carts for their beautification project.
The idea for Beautification Week was started 28 years ago as an effort to spruce up the town in time for the Fourth of July.
