KING CITY — King City police and fire departments responded to the report of a vehicle fire in the 300 block of Ellis Street early Friday morning.

The vehicle was parked in a carport with apartments overhead. Upon arrival at about 5:30 a.m., local police and fire personnel assisted with the safe evacuation of the apartments’ occupants.

Firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire, of which the exact cause is unknown. 

“Due to the unknown origin of the fire, the assistance of Cal Fire Investigators was requested,” according to police in a news release.

Two apartments were impacted by smoke and water damage, and the occupants have been temporarily relocated with the assistance of the American Red Cross.

“This is an ongoing investigation between the King City Police Department and Cal Fire Investigations,” police said.
