JOLON — A hunter died on the opening day of deer-hunting season in the Fort Hunter Liggett area near Jolon on Saturday morning.

According to local officials, 28-year-old Ryan Bricker of Salinas was in a Jeep when it rolled down an embankment in southern Monterey County at about 8:40 a.m. on Aug. 13.

Bricker was taken to Mee Memorial Hospital in King City, where he later died from his injuries.

Cal Fire San Benito-Monterey Unit, whose firefighters responded to the accident, said it was a “lengthy rescue effort” to retrieve Bricker, who reports say was out hunting with friends.

Bricker was married with two young children, according to a GoFundMe account set up for his family.
