SALINAS VALLEY — South Monterey County athletes Aleena Salas of the Greenfield High volleyball team and Katia Slama of the King City High flag football team were honored by being selected Most Valuable Players of their respective Pacific Coast Athletic League teams.
Salas, a sophomore on the Cypress Division champion Bruins team, was chosen as MVP and first-team All-League, and Slama, another sophomore athlete, was also MVP and first-team All-League as a quarterback.
VOLLEYBALL
Joining Salas on the Cypress first-team All-League team were Bruin teammates Layla Rodriguez and Emily Soto. Rodriguez was also chosen as Defensive Player of the Year in the Cypress Division.
Kimberly Carpo and Jocylyn Mendoza of Greenfield were chosen second team All-League and Arlene Cruz was named to the Richard Chamberlin All-Sportsmanship Team.
In the Gabilan Division, Xienna Novoa of King City was a first-team All-League selection and Hollyn Hearne was a second-team All-League selection. Hayden Munoz was named to the Richard Chamberlin All-Sportsmanship Team.
Angelina Navarro of Gonzales was a first-team All-League player in the Mission Division and was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Breannalee Tello of Gonzales and Valeria Suguda of Soledad were named to the second-team All-League team.
Evelyn Perea of Gonzales and Deliaha Ochoa of Soledad were chosen to the Richard Chamberlin All-Sportsmanship Team.
FLAG FOOTBALL
King City’s Shyrah McDonald joined Slama on the first-team All-League offensive team as a receiver, and teammate Dania Rodriguez was on the second-team for offense as a receiver. Michelle Campos of Soledad was on the second team for offense as a running back.
On defense, Yesenia Rodriguez of King City was a first-team selection at safety and teammate Samantha Muniz was a selection at linebacker. Gianna Dow of Soledad was a second-team defense selection at defensive back and Melissa Iglesias of King City was a second-team selection as a linebacker.
Kaylin Arvizu of King City and Cameron DeSantiago of Soledad were chosen to the Richard Chamberlin All-Sportsmanship Team.
