KING CITY — The King City Lady Mustangs wrapped up the basketball season with a win and a loss in the Central Coast Section Division IV Playoffs. King City, the 11th seed in Division IV dominated in a first-round home game against Marina High, downing the Mariners 59-11. In their last and final CCS game, the Lady Mustangs were beaten 71-55 in Pacifica by 6th seed Terra Nova.

“Marina was an easy first round game for the girls,” said King City head coach Frank Padilla. “Our second round game with Terra Nova was a different game. “They (Terra Nova), have a 6’5 post player that we just could not stop. The girls did the best they could. We had kind of a slow start and played catchup all night. We never got our outside shooting going and we needed that to make a run at them but we never found our rhythm. Overall I was pleased with the season as the girls made the playoffs as an automatic qualifier with a 16-9 record.”

King City took a 21-1 lead in the first quarter in the game with Marina and led 34-4 at halftime. In the fourth quarter the Lady Mustang defense held Marina scoreless and entered the final period with a 50-4 lead. On the offense end Delaney Carroll led King City in scoring with 14 points and had 10 rebounds while converting one 3-point basket and added a steal and a blocked shot. Megan Flores had her own double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds along with two assists, six steals, and one blocked shot.

Lucy Cabrera had a strong game in a reserve role with 10 points, one 3-point basket, four rebounds, and four steals. Adding points for King City were: Alyssa Richardson, four points; and Buddy Camacho, seven points. Contributing with assists and rebounds were Nancy Andrade with four assists, Megan Jones with nine rebounds, and Ivy Hearne with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

King City trailed 42 to 29 at halftime in the game at Pacifica and were outscored 19-6 in the third quarter as Terra Nova took a 61-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
