KING CITY — A ranch house was completely destroyed in a fire last Thursday in the Jolon and San Lucas roads area south of King City, displacing the home’s family who lost everything.
According to reports, the fire broke out on the porch around 4:30 p.m. on July 27 and quickly spread to the entire house.
When firefighters arrived on scene, the residence was fully engulfed by flames, which also burned nearby hay bales and about a half-acre of land.
The house’s occupants, Kathy and Randy Pura, made it out safely.
Firefighters from Cal Fire, Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department, Gonzales Fire Department and Pine Canyon Fire Department responded to help extinguish the blaze. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s American Medical Response provided assistance.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
According to an online Go Fund Me account set up in their name, the Puras lost all their belongings in the fire.
“They were lucky enough to get out safely, but have lost everything,” the website says. “They literally only have the clothes on (their) backs. They are in need of obtaining the very basic things to live.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, $4,085 has been raised of the total $10,000 goal to help the couple buy clothes and other essential items that were destroyed.
“Randy and Kathy are the most giving and selfless people and would help anyone out who is (in) need,” the site says. “I hope that we can come together and give back to them what has been taken from them.”
