JOLON — The Fort Hunter Liggett community came together last Friday to celebrate the Army’s 249th birthday with an early morning run and a special meal.
As the sun rose over Sulphur Springs, Lt. Col. Amorris Conley delivered opening remarks and Chaplain Guy Crubaugh offered an invocation. The June 14 celebration then kicked off with a 5K run and a 1.5-mile walk at 6:30 a.m.
After the run, the participants gathered at the Warrior Restaurant dining facility, where Garrison Commander Col. Stephen Trotter expressed his gratitude to the soldiers for their dedication, especially during the recent Combat Support Training Exercise. He thanked the restaurant staff for the special meal and introduced Commanding Gen. Colin Morrow of the 91st Training Division, who also shared his appreciation.
The festivities concluded with a traditional cake-cutting ceremony, marking the Army’s 249th birthday.
