KING CITY — King City Police Department and the Criminal Investigations Unit of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) are investigating a local tax agency in connection with a tax fraud investigation.

In February, multiple community members contacted the police department after they believed they had been defrauded by their tax preparation service. Because the investigation involved possible violations of both state and federal laws, KCPD notified the IRS for assistance.

With support from local officers, special agents from the IRS served a search warrant July 14 at the business located at 322 Broadway St., Suite #A, in King City.

“This investigation is ongoing, and we believe there may be other members of the community who may have been victims of fraud during the filing of their tax returns,” police said in a news release. “If you observe any area of your tax return that has been ‘whited out’ or altered, this should warrant further review by law enforcement.”

KCPD encourages all members of the community who used tax preparation services to review their taxes, and if they suspect anything fraudulent to contact Sgt. John Dow at 831-386‐5969 or jd**@ki******.com ; or the WeTip line at 1‐800‐78‐CRIME.

“The King City Police Department would like to thank the community for their assistance thus far and their continued support,” police said.

According to Attorney Robert M. Moss, who represents Rito’s GTS Insurance located at the aforementioned address, “Rito’s Insurance is a separate and independent legal entity and business which is an insurance and DMV related business only, which has nothing to do with the separate owned tax business, which is being operated in the facility. That separate and distinct tax business is a tenant of Rito’s Insurance, which has no involvement in the operations of said tax business.”
