KING CITY — Five personnel from King City Police Department were sworn in as part of a peace officer oath at City Hall last week.
The event marked not only new arrivals, but also the first time certain ceremonies had been conducted before the public since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
More than 50 were in attendance at the June 3 ceremony, from officers and families to visiting officers and leadership from other area departments.
City Manager Steve Adams swore in Chief of Police Keith Boyd after going through the city’s reasoning behind choosing him as permanent chief earlier this year.
“It is an honor to be here today to accept this opportunity to be the next chief of police of King City, leading this organization of dedicated men and women into the future to serve this community and provide this community with what they deserve,” Boyd said. “Ultimately, my success will come down to the men and women of this organization. My role as a leader is to give them an opportunity to succeed. It’s a team effort. We’re going to succeed as a team. We’re going to grow as a team, and we’re going to make this community proud.”
Others being officially recognized included Sgt. Joshue Partida and Sgt. Ryan Kenedy. Partida was sworn in last year during the pandemic, meaning his ceremony could not be public. Kenedy was recently promoted to the rank.
Also recognized were Officers Jose Magana and Michael Rice. Magana had been sworn in during May, but his oath had not been public. Rice was taking oath as a peace officer for KCPD at the ceremony and is scheduled to begin training on June 14.
