KING CITY — A book telling the history of King City using photograph images is underway through an agreement with Arcadia Publishing in cooperation with John and Karen Jernigan of King City and Howard Strohn of Priest Valley.

The book is scheduled to be part of the Arcadia’s “Images of America” series and the authors plan to spend most of 2021 preparing the book with a publication date in mid-year 2022.

John Jernigan is a lifelong resident of King City. He has spent the past 10 years collecting images of the area and encourages anyone to contact him (831-385-6112) if they have old photographs that could be scanned of King City that might be rare or unpublished.

Karen Jernigan has lived in King City for 43 years. She is a former reporter for the King City Rustler newspaper and has been involved in the city by serving on the city council and with the Chamber of Commerce.

Strohn was born in King City and graduated from King City High School in 1957. He has spent many years reading old issues of the Rustler newspaper and has a vast knowledge of the history of Southern Monterey County.

The “Images of America” series celebrates the history of neighborhoods, towns and cities across the country. Using archival photographs, each title presents the distinctive stories from the past that shape the character of the community today.

Arcadia Publishing is located in Mount Pleasant, S.C. The company prides itself on playing a part in the preservation of local heritage, making history available to all. It is the largest publisher of regional history books in North America, with an extensive publishing program spanning more than 6,000 titles.
