MONTEREY COUNTY — The Arts Council for Monterey County (Arts4MC) has awarded five $2,500 scholarships to high school seniors to support their higher educational goals.

Recipients of the scholarship are Daisy Swanson (York School), Joshua Cho (Pacific Grove High School), Isabella Jolie Apodaca (King City High School), Vanessa Stacy Valenziela Berumen (Seaside High School) and Mariah Trinity (Marina High School).

“We are so happy to help support these amazing high school seniors, who have had to endure a global pandemic in their final semester, with a college scholarship to enrich their passion in the arts,” said Jacquie Atchison, Arts4MC executive director.

Atchison said the scholarships are creating an investment in local students right at the beginning of their artistic and academic career, thanks to donations through Monterey County Gives!

“This scholarship empowers local youth to achieve their dreams and contribute to the county’s creative vitality and rich artistic heritage upon graduation,” she said.

According to Atchison, career opportunities in creative fields are growing and varied, from design (graphic design and architecture) to digital arts (filmmaking, game design and photography), literature to performing arts to visual arts (including crafts, such as ceramics).

A college program will give these young artists “vital access to training and professional mentors, as well as knowledge and skills in business, marketing and production,” she said.
