KING CITY — Blue Zones Project Monterey County, in partnership with Sun Street Centers’ STEPS program, organized a series of events throughout Monterey County for its health initiative on Take Down Tobacco Day, held nationally on April 1.

Cleanups took place on March 26 at Monterey Municipal Beach, Central Park in Salinas and City Park in King City, during which volunteers picked up nearly 2,000 cigarette butts.

The events aim to create opportunities for youth to participate in activities that bring awareness of the dangers of smoking and vaping.
