KING CITY — Officers from the King City Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint on March 18 at the intersection of Broadway and Canal streets, with assistance from California Highway Patrol’s King City Area Office.

More than 400 vehicles passed through the checkpoint from 6 to 11:15 p.m., during which two drivers were subsequently arrested for DUI.

An additional 21 drivers were issued citations for operating a motor vehicle while unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license.

One individual was arrested for other criminal charges, police said.

“DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,” police said. “The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.”

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The next DUI checkpoint in King City is scheduled for Sept. 2.
