Warren Ellis King passed away at the age of 89 at his home after a short illness, with his wife by his side.

Born in King City, California, to Clarence Warren King and Rosa Ethel Ellis King. He attended King City schools through high school where he was an excellent athlete, graduating in 1947. After serving as a Sergeant 1st Class in the US Army in Korea, he attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo graduating in the late 50’s with a degree in aeronautical engineering.

Warren then worked as an engineer in the Nike Missile program and later in technical sales for most of his career. He later worked for American Supply, The Paul Mortuary and Hertz until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, antiquing, traveling and, especially, smoking his pipe. He also enjoyed hand-feeding the Blue Jays peanuts as they landed on his head and arms.

Warren was predeceased by his parents and brother, Lloyd. He is survived by his loving wife, Lillian; sons, Randall (Ann) King of Mount Vernon, Washington and grandchildren Ryan and Lindsey of Seattle, Washington and Judd (Janelle) King of Yokasuka, Japan. He is also survived by Lillian’s children, Kathleen (David) Howe, Joanne Reyes and Russell Owens, nine step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Warren was an active volunteer for many organizations including; the Community Hospital reception desk, the Salinas Air Show, Monterey Merienda, the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach and an usher at Cypress Community Church. He was also a “Mister Sister” with the local chapter of the Native Daughters of the Golden West.

Inurnment will take place at King City Cemetery, 1000 Broadway Street in King City this Friday, April 6 at 12:00 noon. Memorial services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 800 Cass Street in Monterey this Saturday, April 7 at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions are suggested to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
